At Boost Others, we believe that every act of support creates a ripple of hope. Thanks to our dedicated community of donors, partners, and volunteers, we have been able to bring life-changing assistance to families. Here are some of the stories that showcase the impact your support makes possible.
On December 28, 2023, a Herndon family was walking home from the grocery store when they were tragically struck by a speeding car while on the sidewalk. The accident was devastating: their young son was placed on life support with little hope of survival, and the mother sustained multiple injuries with an uncertain prognosis. The story gained widespread attention through local news, with one of the final updates reporting that the family had made the heartbreaking decision to remove their son from life support.
Fast forward to September 2024, Boost Others received a request from Herndon Elementary School: "I have a parent who needs to take her child to a neurologist in DC next week, but she does not currently drive. This is an emergency case because the family was involved in a serious car accident in December 2023. The student and his mother were both critically injured. The student was placed on life support and later taken off, but miraculously survived and is now doing very well. The mother suffered multiple leg fractures and, to her surprise, discovered she was pregnant. She gave birth about three weeks ago. I’m asking if you could assist with transportation for the neurologist appointment."
Upon reading the request, we immediately connected it to the tragic accident we had heard about the previous year. Pastor Ivan volunteered to personally drive the family to their appointment. During his time with them, he learned more about their journey and realized he had visited them in the hospital shortly after the accident, where he prayed for them. He also learned of the incredible moment when the boy, after being removed from life support, miraculously began breathing on his own. The family, being strong in their faith, firmly believed this was a miracle from God.
Sandi shared the story with her son, a Fairfax County firefighter. He recognized the incident and told her he knew the crew that had responded that night. The crew had believed the boy hadn’t survived so he shared the miraculous outcome with the crew, who were in disbelief. Sandi’s son then connected her with the captain of that shift, and we were able to coordinate a reunion between the family and the firefighters who had been there for them on that fateful night.
A teenager who was sexually abused by a family member decided she wanted to become a lawyer. She had done well in her counseling and was working through all her trauma. She was from an under-resourced family and was working on weekends and interning during the week. She has been accepted to a great University when she graduates. She helps the family with the funds she receives but was trying to save up to buy a computer. God opened the doors for Boost to provide the brand new computer of her dreams. She is on her way to recovery and to fulfill her dreams in spite of this attack.
Boost received a call from a social worker for a homeless Mom who had a 7-year-old child going through cancer treatment. She didn’t have the funds to buy needed bags to hold the liquid food for her child's IG tube. Boost supplied the $200 needed to buy the bags and get the special formula to help this mom through this crisis. Boost has stayed with this mom and her child just completed her chemotherapy and is cancer free!
A child was sexually abused by a family member. The crime had occurred in the little girls bedroom and we were asked if we could replace the mattress (this is a common request Boost receives). Pastor Ivan and his wife Dina were able to deliver not just a mattress but a whole new bedroom set. They also provided needed comfort for mom as she began the process of healing from this horrific event.
